What resources could help your situation? You won't know until you check for yourself.
1. Click here to connect to the search for government benefits (benefits.gov).
2. If the area that interests you is Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Gainesville FL areas, 1degree.org is an excellent place to check for programs. Easy to use and current (they check listings regularly), One Degree even helps users to develop their own plans, save searches, and write notes to themselves. One of their main search categories is "money" and includes information about programs to build savings, credit unions, financial counseling, and more.
3. LA only -- Los Angeles Office of Financial Empowerment created a resource list that focuses on financially empowering resources only. While these resources are not checked as frequently as One Degree, they are organized very nicely by the types of resources within the larger category of finances.
Categories of their offerings:
We pay you with points for the time you spend looking -- about 30 minutes is worth 3 points. Click here for the survey you will use to report your searches. The survey will send you an email with your answers, which you need to convert to a PDF* and upload below**.
*To convert any document to a PDF, pretend you are printing it (e.g. click file/print). Then in the pop-up, choose the destination of "PDF" or "print as PDF". Why? You are virtually printing a picture of the document, creating a file. Save the file to your ABC folder :) and then drag over or upload the file to this page. Sounds harder than it really is.
** Don't see the option to upload, and you scrolled all the way down the page? You're probably not actually logged in. We allow non-members to view all the acts because we do not want to restrict our information only to those who choose to join ABC. Uploading for points is for ABC members only, and you need to be logged in to get into your account.
